The old loom from the 1700s

The photo shows an old loom from the 1700s, that was presented by Rut Ann Titelman of Osterlen to the Swedish Museum of Looms. It is the oldest of the looms in their collection. The type of loom is not normal for Sweden but well known in Denmark and Holland. Van Gogh painted a similar one ...

...and Georg Jensens Damask weaving mill in Kolding, Denmark, has a picture of one that was woven on at the start of their endeavour which is still at their mill showroom.

It is said to be the workhorse of linen weaving.
My loom, which I bought after moving to Denmark, was for sale in a secondhand online sale offered up by a woman living only a few miles from me. I jumped on my bike to get e proper look at it. It was huge, heave and very old. It had been modified into a 8 shaft countermarch loom, without that I would not have considered it. So I went for it and Lis and her husband could deliver it, as neither I or my husband drive.
We were quick at assembling it. You have to imagine that it arrives taken apart with many parts to fit in there correct places. But it have taken time to get the hang of the loom. I properly started weaving the wrong piece, a tapestry which is a lot slower to weave that a peace of fabric. But I think I have come around and that now we have become good friends.
